Fall Into Flooring: Our Favorite Wood Installs

Happy first week of Autumn! As we head into the cooler weather, we are reflecting on the wood flooring products and installs like we’re enjoying. Whether it’s in a cozy home or the base of a cool corporate install – here are our current favorites.

Herringbone Patterns

Herringbone is having a big “moment” in design recently. We really like the look of herringbone designs – it adds depth to a space, and takes the wood to the next level. Since installing wood in this pattern throughout the suites at the Barclays Center last year, we’ve been hooked. Check out some of our favorite looks of herringbone designs below.

“Reclaimed” Wood

There’s something both funky and sophisticated about the look of reclaimed wood flooring. The rustic look can go perfectly in a country styled home or even creative commercial spaces such as tech start-ups. Another benefit of reclaimed wood? Reusing wood is eco-friendly and very stylish. Below are some of our favorite reclaimed wood looks.

The Importance of Surveying, Floor Leveling & Pours

IMG_0422

One of the most important aspects of a flooring installation is the leveling of the subfloor. Without a level or cohesive foundation below wood, stone, or even carpet can cause products to become easily damaged. Ensuring a proper level floor is important to the lasting success of an install.

Many of today’s corporate spaces have high end finishes that are installed after the flooring is complete. These finishes sometimes cannot tolerate more than a 1/4 inch disparity in the floor over a 200-foot run. Floor leveling surveys ensure proper construction for all flooring finishes. Surveys help to see what disparities exist in the subfloor and if pours and leveling need to be completed.

Wondering why floor leveling is so vital to the finishing of a space? Here are some additional reasons for completing surveys and leveling:

  • Construction of glass office fronts and demountable wall systems
  • Slab deflection beyond finished floor or office front tolerances
  • Poor finishing, rain damage, or premature setup during the concrete construction stage
  • Space converted into residential or commercial offices
  • Loose or dis-bonded condition of existing floor slab
  • Sound or fire requirement on wood frame projects
  • Leveling required on concrete plank construction, due to camber requirement for weight loads
  • Concrete finished floors by design for aesthetic look

Site Feature: Unique Turf Installation Part 2

Just five months after our Fiesta In The Square Installation, we took to Times Square again for another unique turf install. In April 2012, we installed a leveling subfloor and turf for the first ever “Broadway Bowl” hosted by Nike and the NFL.  The event helped to kick off the 2012 NFL Draft, featuring autograph signings and a game played by current and retired NFL players, celebrities, and members of the FDNY and NYPD. Some of the famous players included Mark Sanchez, Justin Tuck, Matt Ryan, Dwayne Bowe, Browning Nagle, Ronnie Lott, Jadakiss, Pooch Hall and Ace Hood. Below are some photos from the installation of the field.

Consolidated Participates In CoreNet/IIDA Tour

Barclays (1)

Fresh off the long Labor Day weekend, Consolidated participated in an Architectural Tour of the famed Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event, hosted by IIDA New York and CoreNet Global New York, was sponsored by office furniture manufacturer Allsteel.

With nearly 70 participants in attendance, the group embarked on a behind-the-scenes tour around the entire facility. Our tour began in the main concourse, a space that features unique architectural designs such as high ceilings, wood finishes and “Barclays blue” branding throughout. We passed arena food vendors such as Juniors, Calexico, and Brooklyn Burger – each built strategically throughout the main level to promote cohesive movement through the space (and delicious local Brooklyn cuisine!). From the entrance of the main concourse, where 80% of visitors to the arena enter, we were treated with sweeping views of the arena. Parallel to the main entrance is the Nets Practice Court – visible from various angles both inside and outside of the arena.

Our next stop was a level up to the Barclays Suite Level, where we stood upon the Vorwerk custom crystal carpet our team installed throughout the arena. The crystals in various gray color ways lead visitors throughout the Suite Level into the BlackberryNow Lounge, where all access ticketholders can enjoy the Stoli Bar and cellular charging stations furnished by Blackberry. One of the most unique architectural features of the Suite Level is The 40/40 Club – a modern, high-end sports club known for its link to media and sports mogul Jay-Z. The herringbone wood floor welcomes you through an open walkway placed above the main entrance of the arena. From this atrium, you are brought into the sleek main area of the club where metal-chain curtains, tile, and wood finishes bring together the décor.

The tour ended at the Event Level of the arena, with a view of the Calvin Klein Courtside Club and the most exclusive area of the facility: The Vault. The CK Club features Vorwerk’s custom crystal carpet installed by Consolidated. A special feature of this club is its glass walls – which are the perfect front row seat to the Nets Practice Court. The Vault features 11 suites with private entrances, and is decorated with metal finishes, centered around the Armand de Brignac Champagne Bar. We had a great time touring the arena and seeing our installations in the overall incredible design at the Barclays Center. Be sure to check it out yourself!
