‘Tis The Season To Sparkle

Gorgeous Sputnik Chandeliers welcome guests at the entrance to Kate Spade New York 789 Madison

On Monday, November 11, we attended a chic night of “sips, snacks & shopping” at Kate Spade New York, co-hosted by The Retail Design Institute’s New York Chapter. Held at Kate Spade’s Uptown Flagship Store, over 70 guests shopped the latest styles from the iconic brand, while taking in the beautiful aesthetics of the store that opened in May 2013.

A highlight of the evening included a discussion with Philip Rosenzweig, VP of Store Design for Kate Spade New York, about the brand’s retail design, in-store experience, and interior finishes. When designing the Flagship Store, “the team tried to envision what Kate Spade’s Uptown Brownstone would look like,” said Rosenzweig. Fielding questions from an eager crowd, Rosenzweig also spoke of the skilled team behind the brand that collects, creates, and curates the interior furniture and finishes in an eclectic, yet cohesive fashion. Taking note of the focal pieces of the entrance to the store – the large sputnik chandeliers – he also explained that the organization typically searches for lamps like that but when it comes to ones in that size and scale, the company custom creates them.

Girly and fresh – the store evokes simplicity with the kind of glamour that only Kate Spade can provide. The “bow” finish was found throughout the 4-story retail location – inlayed into the floor, within the wood screen throughout the first floor and second floor balcony, stitched on pillows on the home furnishings floor, and even in the restroom. It is this attention-to-detail in design that embraces the theme, without overwhelming.

Our evening’s events definitely made us pause at the end of the night, as we were handed canvas totes printed with Spade’s tagline: “Uptown is the new Downtown”. We think Kate is onto something…

Season of Giving: Charities We Support

Consolidated Carpet was founded on the belief that being a good corporate citizen means being involved in your community. We believe in “giving back” and our associates are passionate and active participants in community outreach. As we enter the Holiday Season, we celebrate some of the charities in which the Consolidated Carpet Team supports, and urge you to consider supporting these worthy causes.

The Joy Fund

Consolidated Carpet is honored to support The Joy Fund, a charitable organization established in loving memory of Nicole Joy Frame & her unborn son Robert Louis. The Joy Fund aims to raise awareness & funds for the charities that Nicole was passionate about, including Cystic Fibrosis, which she was born with. The organization is very close to the Consolidated Carpet family & we encourage you to visit The Joy Fund website at www.thejoyfund.net.

Consolidated Carpet serves as a yearly sponsor and participant in The Joy Fund’s Memorial Golf Classic to benefit The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  The Golf Classic is a true celebration of Nicole’s life and successfully raised over $20,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 2012.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, NYC Chapter

Consolidated Carpet is a proud supporter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, including their Light The Night Walk. Consolidated participated in the 2012 Light The Night Walk as a Route Marker Sponsor in Manhattan, and will be participating again in 2013. We are honored to help further LLS’ mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Toys For Tots

During the holidays, our team delights in giving back to less fortunate children through the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program. 2013 will be our 4th consecutive year participating. This annual Holiday toy collection and distribution program serves to brighten the holiday season for local children in need by providing them with new toys. For the third time, Consolidated was proud to participate as a donation drop-off center in both of their offices – located in Manhattan and Carlstadt, New Jersey.

St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters

Consolidated has been an avid partner of St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters for years, and frequently participates in fundraising activities throughout the year. Most recently, our CEO David Meberg was honored at the 15th Annual Golf For Hunger Event for his long-standing support of the charity. The organization serves the poor in local communities by providing shelter, food, clothing and counseling to support the emotional and physical needs of the less fortunate. The organization serves over 1.2 million meals each year throughout 22 non-profit Food Pantries, Soup Kitchens, Safe Havens, Drop In Centers and Shelters supported by St. Francis Food Pantries & Shelters throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey.

The Friends of St. Dominic’s Home

Consolidated Carpet’s long-standing relationship with Saint Dominic’s Home spans decades. Since the early 1990’s, Consolidated President and CEO David T. Meberg has been an ambassador and supporter of Friends of Saint Dominic’s, the fundraising arm of Saint Dominic’s Home. Founded in 1878, Saint Dominic’s Home provides services and programs to more than 2,300 individuals, many of whom are children, and families of all backgrounds that are developmentally disabled, socially disadvantaged, and, or, vocationally challenged in the Lower Hudson Valley and New York City.

Flooring For Hospitality Clients

As an organization with a strong foundation in hospitality installations, we have maintained a great deal of knowledge in this market throughout our 70 years in business. Many leading hotels, restaurants, and clubs look to Consolidated for our decades of experience and expertise servicing the hospitality industry. From boutique properties to national chains, our team is skilled and capable to handle the unique challenges and specialty products found in hospitality projects. These clients have spaces often known for their plush and glamorous décor. Using high-quality materials such as woven broadloom carpet, custom rugs, and in some recent projects, stone and wood, our team helps to fortify the luxurious ambience. Out-of-service spaces means loss of dollars and usage.

Guestrooms & Suites

The guestrooms and suites of hotels require high-quality, comfortable products installed with as little seaming as possible. Broadloom carpet is a great solution for these spaces and are often used in neutral striations and patterns. With the emergence of boutique hotels and contemporary designs, many hotels have opted for a bold and bright color palette with exciting patterns and unique décor.

Public Spaces & Common Areas

The needs for public areas require more durable products, as there is heightened foot traffic from guests and patrons. These installations are often in darker hues, larger patterns, and made from stronger, more stain resistant fibers. In spaces like the Fitness Center below, slip resistant resilient floors with a woven texture are a great option to ensure proper grip on the floor, while offering the hotel staff the ability for quick and effective cleaning.

Bars & Restaurants

Although bars, restaurants, and lounges often have the same luxurious feel as hotels, many spaces use carpet tile for their ease of installation and ability to change or replace if damaged or stained. The types, colors, and patterns of products are dependent upon the overall design aesthetic and theme of the space.
