Mohawk Group, the commercial arm of one of the largest carpet manufacturers in the world, Mohawk Industries, has solidified their position at the top of the pack. With cutting edge designs, innovative manufacturing processes, and a passion for sustainability, Mohawk Group is a great choice for a variety of commercial interior applications.

Street Thread Collection

One of Mohawk’s newest and most unique collections of carpet tile, Street Thread, takes urban design and puts in on the floor. With geometric and linear patterns reminiscent of graffiti, the 4 styles of the Street Thread Collection complement each other for a funky & fun installation. All constructed with Duracolor Premium Nylon, the styles each come in 8 colorways with a foundation of varying shades of gray highlighted by vibrant accent colors such as red, yellow, blue and magenta.

“Off The Wall” has a high-fashion geometric design compromised of small squares diagonally placed across each carpet tile. With linear striations, best suited as drop-in accents with “Off The Wall”, the” Pop Icon” style has a wonderful shading transition from neutral gray to exciting brights. “Super Fresh” has a curvy, circular pattern based off artwork by Queen Andrea, quoting lyrics from John Lennon’s “Imagine”. The last style in the Street Thread Collection, “Taped Off”,  has a stand-out linear pattern with varying thicknesses, mirroring the look of spray painting over tape.

Mohawk Group: Making A Difference

With company roots existing for over 150 years, Mohawk Group has positioned themselves to be one of the most community-involved carpet manufacturers around the world. The company manufactures products from post-consumer recycled materials, such as water bottles. A matter of fact, one of their recycling facilities “recycles 3 billion plastic bottles per year, the equivalent of 20 percent of all bottles in the domestic post-consumer market,” to be converted to Everstrand carpet. In 2001, Mohawk started “Specify For A  Cure“, a campaign to give back to Susan G. Komen For The Cure. When you specify 500 yards of carpet or more from any of the seven eligible Mohawk Group carpet collections or any Durkan print carpet, the company pledges to donate $.25 per square yard of carpet sold to Susan G. Komen. These community programs are just the beginning of many amazing environmental and community outreach programs sponsored by Mohawk Group. We encourage you to visit their website at www.MohawkGroup.com to learn more about the amazing things this great manufacturer is doing!

INSTALL Warranty On Labor

install logo

At Consolidated Carpet, we are proud that all of our installers are INSTALL certified. INSTALL, the International Training and Standards Alliance, is a cooperative effort established by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and union floor covering contractors, with the support of most major mills and flooring manufacturers. This certification assures our clients that the workforce on their jobsite has met the most stringent qualifications required in the industry.

As of 2013, INSTALL guarantees the work of its Certified Contractors. The two-year warranty is extended and free – covering commercial and residential installations of carpet, resilient and hardwood. Industries served include healthcare, education, hospitality, retail, residential, and many more. INSTALL’s Warranty is the first of its kind in the floorcovering industry. It is a third-party additional guarantee provided by the INSTALL Committee where only the best capitalized, most professional contractors in North America achieve the status of being an INSTALL Warranty Contractor – and therefore qualify to carry the Warranty on Labor.

Wondering what other benefits exist when using INSTALL Certified laborers? Check out this brief video to see why there is a difference!

Project: Thurgood Marshall Courthouse

Location: New York, NY

Completed: August 2013

Scope: 343,750 square feet

Major Products Used: Milliken Custom Patterned Carpet // J+J Solid Custom Carpet // Forbo Resilient Flooring

Architect: Beyer Blinder Belle Architects

Project Information: First-ever comprehensive interior and exterior renovation and restoration of the 730,000-square-foot Thurgood Marshall US Courthouse in Lower Manhattan, a national and New York City-registered landmark and home to the famous trials of Alger Hiss and Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

The $314 million renovation addresses outdated infrastructure systems with a full upgrade of the building’s mechanical, electrical, fire protection, plumbing, security, audio-visual, and telecommunications systems. Interior upgrades include reconfiguration of security screening areas, a new service entrance, a relocated cafeteria, and the addition of a magistrate’s courtroom. Principal interior spaces and historic courtrooms are restored. Extensive repairs were made to the building façade and roof addressing wear and damage to the exterior envelope.

The flooring choices were made to complement the original architectural designs throughout the space. The solid blue J+J carpet is a perfect accent to the beautiful light wood and lighting fixtures in the library areas, with the beige J+J carpet serving as a neutral backdrop in the private offices in the space. Contrasting the patterned ceiling designs in the courtrooms and chambers, the classically patterned Milliken carpets offer grounding aesthetics in the large rooms.

The installation for Thurgood Marshall US Courthouse was unique because of the National and New York City registered landmark designations.  Designed in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and the GSA’s Design Excellence Program, the project integrates modern building systems with minimal impact on the historic fabric, preparing the Courthouse for the 21st-century while maintaining its grandeur. The entire project was designed to LEED Certification requirements, providing a successful model for other large-scale sustainable historic preservation projects.

Installer Spotlight: Praise For Our Team

The foundation of our business is our installers. When Consolidated Carpet started in 1943, we were an installation-only organization. As we’ve grown and developed, we have taken on sales and contracting – but the high quality installations have remained the heart of our business.

Frequently, clients and partners in the industry reach out to our team to praise our installers for their outstanding craftsmanship and productivity. We are honored and proud of such achievements, and enjoy sharing these comments with our associates at Consolidated and beyond. Here are some recent comments from projects completed in 2014. Bravo to our installers for their incredible work ethic and superior installations!

“Consolidated Carpet is doing an outstanding job … Rich and Keith are doing quality work. The collaboration and communication brought to the table by Rich and Keith is greatly appreciated. I am requesting that Rich and Keith do all of the flooring and carpeting for the [other locations] under construction.” – Head of Facilities at Major Healthcare Project in New York Metropolitan Area

“As we begin the closeout on our recent 55th floor project, I wanted to reach out and thank everyone at Consolidated, especially the project and installation teams for all their efforts in making our 55th floor project another success for our firm. Everything associated with this project was done as a collaborative team effort. We were happy again to have all of you as part of the team.” – Head of Facilities at a Major NYC  Law Firm

“Just a note of thanks for a job well done. The 18th and 19th floors look great. The drop-in tiles, especially on the 19th floor, look awesome. Your team of guys did great job. James and Todd [are] very excellent foremen and it was a pleasure working with them and all of your installers. Please convey to the installers how much I appreciate the job they did for me over the last 6 weekends.” – Facilities Manager at Major Corporate Project in NYC
